white as snow

white
fluffy
cold
falling slowly
quickly piling

our first snowfall of the year
covers everything with
a coat of white
defining lines
and angles
not

seen or noticed
on the average day
sparkling in the sun
melting in my hand
staying only
a moment
and then disappearing

each flake different
from the one by it
a blanket lain
on the earth
to protect from
cold sub-zero
temperatures

reminding me of God's forgiveness
how He wipes the slate clean
gives me a brand-new start
white as snow

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love; according to Your great compassion blot out my transgressions.  Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.  For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.  Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are proved right when You speak and justified when You judge.  Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.  Surely You desire truth in the inner parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.  Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow...Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. ~Psalm 51:1-7, 10-12
"Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord.  "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." ~Isaiah 1:18
"I, even I, am He Who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more." ~Isaiah 43:25
"I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." ~Jeremiah 31:34
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us."         ~Psalm 103:11,12

Thank You, Lord,
for making me white as snow...
You see me, not for what I have done.
Instead, I am no longer stained with sin
but made white as snow...shimmering, sparkling
in the presence
of the Son.
